Crystal Palace vs Arsenal, match report

Written by Max Robertson

The Premier League campaign kicked off tonight under the lights at Selhurst Park, Arsenal came out with a 2-0 win, opening the season with a win, unlike the start of last season where they lost 2-0 to Brentford.

Gabriel Martinelli should’ve opened the scoring in the 4th minute, after new signing Gabriel Jesus’s stunning skill, his shot was blocked by Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, but unfortunately for him, the ball rebounded straight into the path of Martinelli who fired the ball wide.

In the 20th minute, Martinelli repaid himself, after English starboy Bukayo Saka whipped in a beautiful corner straight to Ukraine international Oleksandr Zinchenko, who delivered the ball into the box where Martinelli rose highest, headering the ball past Crystal Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.

42 minutes in, Crystal Palace had a huge chance to level the scoring, Odsonne Édouard headed the ball towards goal, but was denied by Aaron Ramsdae, who has received lots of plaudits after his performances for the North London outlet last season.

In the 51st minute, Crystal Palace had another chance waiting to hit the back of the net, but Eberechi Eze’s shot from 8 yards out was denied by Aaron Ramsdale, his 2nd big save of the game.

85 minutes on the clock, Arsenal grabbed their 2nd against the run of play, substitute Eddie Nketiah fizzed the ball into Bukayo Saka’s feet, who drove at Tyrick Mitchell, then delivered a powerful cross into the area which deflected off Marc Guehi’s head, into the back of the net.

A win for Arsenal in their first game of the season, a positive sign for what Arsenal fans hope for a great season ahead.
